Welcome
Hi there! Welcome to SUITable, a plus-size men’s Style & fashion blog about my experience as a bigger man finding my own style in NYC.
Ever since I can remember, I have been captivated by men’s fashion, drawn to its ability to express confidence, character, and timeless elegance. The men in my family all had great style, effortlessly blending sophistication with individuality, and I admired the way they carried themselves with such ease. As a music lover, I found inspiration in icons like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr, whose impeccable tailoring and effortless swagger made them the epitome of cool. I wanted to emulate that same sharp, charismatic presence, understanding from early on that great style wasn’t just about clothing- it was about attitude, confidence, and the way you moved through the world.
There was only one problem: I could never find clothes that fit, much less fit well; and when I did, they were clothes I had no interest in wearing. Going to the big & tall department in a store was a joke. I was lucky if they had more than two isles of clothes, and even if they had more, the clothes were big AND tall (which I was not.) Needless to say, I spent most of my formative years pouring over men’s style magazines like GQ, convinced that I was doomed to wear whatever I could find in the lonely depths of the big & tall racks. It wasn’t all a loss, though. Reading through so many of those magazines for so long did help me develop a decent sense of style - at least in theory; in practice, I definitely had some work to do. I explored different ideas, some successfully and others not so much. I experimented with colors, patterns and textures, but ever within the confines of ill-fitting clothes made for someone with a different body type. “When will the fashion industry understand that Bodies come in ALL shapes and sizes?” I thought. “When will they learn that someone with a bigger body still deserves to dress well?” I thought no one else understood me. After all, aren’t all big people just lazy slobs who couldn’t care less about their appearance? (Hint: No, we’re not, not by a long shot, but that’s the way society has painted us for ages.
Fast-forward to today, and social media is filled with content creators posting GRWM reels and doing videos about men’s fashion. And while most of the men doing it are on the slimmer side, there are those who have unapologetically embraced their larger frames, and helped to drive the necessary changes for a more inclusive, sustainable and body positive fashion landscape. It’s my hope that through my posts and experiences, others who may relate can find a voice of their own and feel empowered to step out into this vast world, knowing that they belong, and can look Damned good while doing it. Welcome to SUITable!
